Metric (British Standard) Specifications

Our metric roller chain is manufactured to ISO 606 and DIN 8187 specifications, the international standards for roller chain used in equipment manufactured outside North America. This chain is also commonly referred to as British Standard (BS) chain, as it follows the standards established in the United Kingdom and adopted internationally.

Premium Construction Features

• ISO/DIN Standard Compliant: Manufactured to meet ISO 606 and DIN 8187 specifications for guaranteed international compatibility
• British Standard Compatible: Meets BS (British Standard) specifications for UK and European equipment
• Heat-Treated Components: Pins, bushings, rollers, and plates undergo heat treatment for enhanced strength and wear resistance
• Solid Roller Design: Solid steel rollers provide superior wear resistance and durability
• Solid Bushings: Solid bushing construction ensures maximum strength and extended service life
• Pre-Stretched: Factory pre-stretching minimizes elongation during operation, reducing maintenance requirements
• Precision Manufactured: Tight tolerances ensure smooth operation and proper sprocket engagement

Connector Links & Half Links Available

We stock metric connector links and half links for all metric roller chain sizes, making installation and length adjustments easy:

Metric Connector Links: Essential for joining the ends of metric roller chain together to complete a loop. Each connector link includes outer plates, pins, and spring clips or cotter pins for secure assembly. Allows for easy chain installation and removal without special tools.

Metric Half Links: Specialty components used to adjust chain length by one-half pitch increment. Perfect for fine-tuning chain length when standard chain doesn't provide proper tension adjustment, or when converting between odd and even numbers of links.

Applications

Metric roller chain is essential for equipment manufactured to international standards:

• European and Asian machinery and equipment
• International agricultural equipment
• Imported industrial machinery
• Material handling equipment built to metric standards
• Processing and packaging equipment from international manufacturers
• Conveyors and drive systems designed to ISO/DIN specifications
• Replacement chain for equipment originally equipped with metric chain

Metric vs. ANSI Chain

Metric roller chain (British Standard) and ANSI roller chain are NOT interchangeable. While they may appear similar, the pitch dimensions and specifications are different. Metric chain is designed for equipment manufactured to ISO/DIN/BS standards, while ANSI chain is designed for North American equipment. Always verify which standard your equipment requires before ordering.

Why British Standard Chain?

The term "British Standard" chain refers to the specifications originally established in the United Kingdom and later adopted as international standards (ISO 606, DIN 8187). This chain is used worldwide in equipment manufactured outside North America, making it essential for maintaining imported machinery and international equipment.

International Equipment Compatibility

If your equipment was manufactured in Europe, Asia, or other international markets, it likely requires metric (British Standard) roller chain. Using the correct metric chain ensures proper fit, reliable performance, and extended service life. Attempting to use ANSI chain on metric equipment can lead to poor performance, excessive wear, and premature failure.

Common Metric Sizes Available

We stock a complete range of metric roller chain sizes including 04B, 05B, 06B, 08B, 10B, 12B, 16B, 20B, 24B, and larger, along with matching metric connector links and half links. Whether you need light-duty 04B chain or heavy-duty 24B chain, we have the metric size you need in stock and ready to ship.
