Product Questions

How do I identify which chain I need?

The easiest way to identify your chain is to look for a number stamped on the chain links. Common numbers include 25, 32, 62, 67, 662, 667, etc. If you can't read the number on your chain, take a photo and text it to 815-973-2648, or measure the pitch (distance from the center of one pin to the center of the next pin) and call us. Our knowledgeable team can help you identify the correct chain based on your measurements and application.

What's the difference between steel detachable chain and pintle chain?

Steel Detachable Chain: Links can be easily assembled or disassembled by flexing the chain and tapping links in or out. No special tools required. Commonly used on seeders, drills, conveyors, and bale elevators. Designed for moderate loads and speeds.

Pintle Chain: Heavy-duty chain with offset sidebar construction. Used on manure spreader aprons and heavy-duty agricultural applications. Requires connector links or master links to join chain sections. Designed for heavy loads and continuous operation.

How do I measure my manure spreader apron?

To properly measure your manure spreader apron, you'll need:

  • Overall Length: Measure the complete apron from end to end
  • Drive Sprocket Spacing: Measure center to center on the drive sprockets
  • Chain Type: Identify the chain number (62, 67, 88C, 662, 667, etc.)
  • Slat Type: Note if you have rectangle tubes, flat slats, or other configurations

If you're unsure about any measurements, text photos to 815-973-2648 or call us and we'll help you verify the correct apron for your spreader.

What does "price per apron" mean?

Many manure spreaders use TWO aprons working together (side-by-side beater spreaders). When we list "price per apron," it means the price shown is for ONE apron. If your spreader uses two aprons and you want to replace both (recommended for even wear), you'll need to order a quantity of 2.

Are your chains USA made?

Many of our chains are USA made, including:

  • Steel Detachable Chain: USA made, heat-treated for strength and durability
  • Pintle Chain (select sizes): USA made options available
  • T-Bar Chain: USA made
  • Manure Spreader Aprons: Custom-built in the USA

Product descriptions clearly indicate when items are USA made. If you have questions about a specific product's origin, please contact us.

Do you sell connector links and master links?

Yes! We stock connector links (also called master links or repair links) for most chain sizes. Connector links are used to join chain sections or complete chain loops. They include pins and cotter pins for easy installation without special tools.

Technical Support

How do I install steel detachable chain?

Steel detachable chain is designed for easy installation:

  1. Flex the chain slightly to open the link
  2. Tap the link into place with a hammer or mallet
  3. The link will snap into position
  4. No special tools required!

Always operate the chain with the closed side of the barrel against the sprocket for optimal performance and wear life. If you need installation assistance, call or text 815-973-2648.

When should I replace my apron chain?

Replace your manure spreader apron chain when you notice:

  • Excessive chain wear or elongation
  • Broken or damaged slats
  • Chain skipping on sprockets
  • Uneven spreading patterns
  • Increased power requirements
  • Unreliable operation or frequent breakdowns

When replacing aprons on side-by-side beater spreaders, we recommend replacing both aprons at the same time to ensure even wear and consistent performance.

Can you help me verify fitment?
